How it works

Three steps. One real test.

From a page in your bag to a timed test in about a minute.

  1. Bring your pages

Pick a PDF, choose photos of your book or notes, or snap pages with the camera.

Add a document screen with Files, Photos and Camera options Add a document screen with Files, Photos and Camera options
  2. Choose your test

How many questions, how hard, which kinds, for which grade. One big tap per step.

    How many questions? step with 5, 10, 20, 30, 50 or pick a number How many questions? step with 5, 10, 20, 30, 50 or pick a number
  3. Sit it for real

A clock, a question grid, mark for review, and it hands in by itself when time is up.

Features

Your test, your rules.

Every setting a teacher would pick, in words a kid can follow.

Any number of questions

5, 10, 20, 30, 50 or your own number. If your pages can only support 40, we say so.

Easy, hard or mixed

Easy, medium, hard or a mix. Start gentle the week before, turn it up the night before.

5 question types

  • Multiple choice
  • True / False
  • Fill in the blank
  • Match
  • Short answer

Grade 1 to college

Wording follows the grade. Little ones can have questions read aloud.

  • Grade 1–3
  • 4–6
  • 7–9
  • 10–12
  • College

Timer and auto-submit

A clock for the whole test or for each question, a heads-up at one minute, and it hands in by itself.

Negative marking

One point each, or take off ¼, ⅓ or 1 for a wrong answer. Set your own pass mark, too.

Answers cite your page

Each answer links to the sentence it came from. One tap opens your page right there.

Exam patterns

Practise with the rules and marking of the exam you're sitting.

  • JEE
  • NEET
  • UPSC
  • SAT
  • …more

Practice or real test

Practice shows the answer after each question, with hints. Real test keeps it all for the end.

No mystery answers.

Got one wrong? Exam Gorilla shows you why, and the exact sentence on your own page that has the answer.

From your page 6

Sugarcane is a tall, sweet stem. And here is a surprise: a potato is not a root. It is a swollen underground stem! The “eyes” on a potato are buds.

After the bell

Stars, a score, and what to read again.

Results that tell you what to do next, not just how you did.

  • Score and stars. Time used, points after negative marking, pass or not yet.
  • What to read again. Each missed idea, with the page number to go back to.
  • Kind words. “Nearly!” instead of a big red cross. Mistakes are for learning.
Built for iPhone Duo

Open it up. Question on one side, grid on the other.

On the foldable iPhone Duo, Exam Gorilla uses both halves: the question on one, your page or the question grid on the other.

iPhone Duo opened: timer and question grid on the left half, question 7 with four answers on the right half iPhone Duo opened: timer and question grid on the left half, question 7 with four answers on the right half

There's no library to wander off into. The only pages in the app are the ones you bring.

FAQ

Good questions.

Does Exam Gorilla come with books or lessons?

No. You bring the pages: a PDF, photos of your book or notes, or pages you snap with the camera. The app turns those into a test.

How do I know the answers are right?

Every answer links to the sentence on your page it came from. Tap it and the page opens with that sentence highlighted, so you can check for yourself.

How many questions can it make?

Pick 5, 10, 20, 30, 50 or your own number. A short page can only support so many good questions, so if you ask for more than it can make, the app tells you how many it can.

Can I practise for JEE, NEET, UPSC or the SAT?

Yes. Choose “Exam pattern” as the test style and the test follows that exam's rules and marking, including negative marking.

Is it OK for young kids?

It's made for them. Pick Grade 1–3 and questions use simple words, buttons are big, and questions can be read aloud. There are no ads.

Which phones does it work on?

iPhone, including the foldable iPhone Duo, where the question and your page sit side by side.

Your next test is already in your bag.

Exam Gorilla is coming soon to the App Store.
